are american citizens ignorant?

kentucky fried chicken
tramdelamens asked:

i saw on a show the host asked some american people to name a country started with a letter U. the people said they didnt know and the host said the United States of America. Another instance is when some people were asked the full name of KFC, which they answered Kentucky Fried Chicken. Then they were asked which state KFC was founded, then the americans said” ahhh, i don’t know”. American people are ignorant about the world around them. Some don’t even know their country’s history. And if i was an American, i would protest on the street, protest the government, and protest all the big business companies that take advantage of the average people
o, btw, i am a French citizen living in California right now

I don’t think that most of the people are not like that.

You’re making a very broad generalization. I don’t feel that all Americans are ignorant, nor do I consider myself to be. Americans are no more ignorant than citizens of other countries, the difference is (some) Americans have no shame. Unfortunately, the population that doesn’t care how they are viewed negatively affects the rest of us, making us look very bad.

In short, America has no more ignorance than other countries, we’ve just got more people who aren’t ashamed of it.

You can not judge all Americans by watch a talk show. That would make you ignorant, thinking we are all the same.

well true alot sumtimes americans are a little bit slow. but really, as a whole all people are dumb, and a single person can be smart. but the american citizens are not required to know the world outside of the US. that is why we have a republic instead of a full fledge democracy. so lucky for us we have people who do know these about foreign policies.

there are ignorant people all over the world. you happened to see some from the USA. watch programs in other countries and you’ll see the same thing. stupidity, ignorance, common sense, and intelligence…they run the full range worldwide. as for street protests, that’s one good thing about America. you’ll have that freedom without worrying a tank might show up and take you on.

OK - so you saw a show, interviewing people who are crap at trivial pursuits and./or scrabble. Beyond that - who cares ?

What’s the problem - it just means less competition for jobs, for smarter people like me - and that’s what AMERICA is all about (putting one over on the competition).

Whether or not a person is an American citizen has no relevance in regards to whether they are ignorent or not. Some people are more inteligent than others, wherever you are or whatever country you hail from.

Most shows don’t take really smart people. The quiz you before to their requirements. I don’t think that Americans are ignorant, but the people you see on TV make it seem that way. The American school system is one of the best in the world in that it educates all not just the best. The problem in the US today in apathy for the country. The average person just tries to get by and has no time to protest everything. The capitalist society that Americans live in we choose to accept that the big business will get rich and take advantage when they can, but the trade off is the prosperity and lifestyle that so many countries want and get jealous over. Americans are required to learn our history in school, but after that there is no one quizzing you to see if you still remember it. If you don’t use something are you always going to remember it, I think not.

ignorant people also make statements that refer to all rather than a few … but hey whatever. Some people also get stage fright when under pressure … let’s shoot them too for their
ignorance! And fortunately here in America we allow everyone their right to an opinion and the ability to protest - is where you come from so great that there’s nothing wrong …
simply paradise (Let us know so we can all go there)

If you were an American, I would probably ask you to move to another country. Pick any country, and I will show you a moron from there. Idiots make good television. People love to see an idiot. It’s like a monkey f***ing a football. It’s horrific, but you just can’t turn away. Also, keep in mind that most of the companies that are taking advantage of people are producing in other countries such as India, Korea, Indonesia, and Mexico. Imagine that, cheap labor with no benefits. Who’s taking advantage of who? How many Iraqi children do you think actually know their country’s history? If they did, they surely wouldn’t be protesting change from dictatorship. I’m going to protest. Laughable. Are you even allowed to protest in your country? Will you be put into a prison for many years for doing so? Which country do you happen to be from? I have trouble fathoming the sort of mind that spews this sort of crap from it’s mouth. By the way, if you are going to send a letter about ignorance, you should probably at least try to use proper capitalization and grammar.

I was going to say Uruguay then I looked it up and it’s actually called the Oriental Republic of Uruguay. Does that still count?

I say it all the time, Americans are willfully naive or ignorant. They think they’re the center of the universe, so they don’t have to bother to learn what’s going on in the rest of the world. They’re easily taken advantage of because of this ignorance. But they also can be bullies, for instance in Iraq, because of following the wrong leaders at home. It’s sad, really.

sorry, but if you think that people is ignorant because ‘nobody’ knows the correct answer in a TV show, so… you are the ignorant one.

Talk show are just for laugh. overall the Americans are smarter than citizens of other countries. You judge the intelligent of the people not by one or two talk show but by the prosperity of a nation as a whole and we are ten times richer and sucessful than the French can ever dream of. It is a wise choice for you to come to California because in a few more years your country will be taken over by the no good Muslim fanatics.

Think about it … The show would only cast the few who didn’t know. The most absurd or ridiculous answers. Where would the humor be in correct answers? Not just Americans … people in general find humor in others stupidity.
