A: dont use acronyms without explaining them. Is PMS your school, or Pre-Menstrual Syndrome?

B: Do you REALLY need a resume for a job at the Olive Garden? Having worked in restaurant management for a while, we usually laughed at people who gave us resumes. The ONLY people in restaurant settings that would really need a resume would be people directly applying for store management positions or corporate positions like regional manager, buyer, etc…

    C: That’s not much of a resume:

Objectives and Accomplishments sections are good.
Employment history needs more info… traditionally, something like this:

January, 2007 - Present Polo Ralph Lauren, city, state
Put your experience here. Use action words like:
Responsible for ensuring quality customer service.
Creating eye catching displays to present our products to the public.

Month,Year - Month, Year Kentucky Fried Chicken City, State
Responsible for serving meals to our customers following company guidelines while ensuring quality and freshness of product.
    and so forth…

    For education, similar.

What you have presented so far is more like what you’d put in a cover letter, not in the resume itself.

Just be honest, don’t make things up, but you CAN spice it up while being honest. For example:

    Dont say this:
I ran a team doing phone suport.

    Do say this:
I was responsible for a phone support team of up to 10 employees. In this position I ensured the quality of support and adherence to terms of service. I also ensured team members were adequately trained and encouraged employees to seek additional training beyond their normal functions. I ensured a high level of customer satisfaction and timely resolution of issues.

Good luck! And look around on google for examples of resumes…

Remember you will need to create a cover letter. If you are still stuck on your cover letter after writing your resume there is an excellent guide found under the resources on this page.

Before you can create the body of your resume, you must determine what your objective is. This must be clear and concise as the remainder of your resume will be structured around your objective. It should state what kind of a job you are applying for and what skills you will be bringing to the company that applies to the job you are seeking.

When you are detailing your previous job descriptions use bullet points to separate detailed duties. Each bullet point should carry only one sentence. Each sentence should be short and to the point. These bullet points help the reader skim through your resume. Typically the reviewers only give 10-30 seconds per resume.

Use action words; $ dollar, % percentage, and # number signs were applicable throughout your resume. These will draw the reader’s attention to those specific areas. Remember that if it doesn’t apply to the job description and if it carries a negative tone, it should NOT be in your resume. Be positive only.

The appearance of your resume should be unique. NOT as far as the Reesse Witherspoon on Legally Blonde with perfume. BUT it should be printed on different color paper and on a different size of paper, to stand out and say “HEY Look at ME!”

It should be no longer than 2 pages long and use the space of the pages wisely. ADVERTISE yourself. Believe me you want more open space on your resume, also known as “white space” like you would find on eye catching advertisements. So, increase your line spacing.

When you THINK that everything is perfect, get someone else’s opinion. An outside view is always nice to have.

HAVE an excellent eye catching cover letter. If you can write your own cover letter, GREAT! If you still need extra help on this refer to the resource section in this page for some eye catching ideas that are guaranteed to get immediate responses.
