Can you soak tri tip in buttermilk like you do fried chicken?

fried chicken
YOUR MOM ™ asked:

Can you soak tri tip in buttermilk as a tenderizer? Has anyone ever tried it? I would think the enzymes would also break down the beef fibers and make for a super tender chuck o’ beef?

What do you guys think?

I think it is a great idea!!!! I usually use 1/2 cup of bourbon, 1/2 can coke and worchestershire sauce. But I would think the buttermilk would be good.

Why not try it? I have a recipe that calls for marinating butterflied leg of lamb in sour cream, and it’s wonderful! … You could also marinade the tri-tip in beer or some brandy. Liquor also tenderizes it…..

stick with this idea… and omit the alcohol…you should have a good product at the end. the buttermilk has its own flavor and can do the job if marinated long enough and alcohol tends to mess up the flavor when mixed with dairy like this…
