I thought those people in Boston throwing tea bags were ridiculous but that doesn't stop them from doing it. Besides, how do you know if the people protesting KFC aren't involved in other issues (such as homelessness) when they aren't doing that? Seeing a bunch of people at one time or other couldn't possibly give you enough information for you to know everything about them. Also, why isn't the restaurant giving away free food to the homeless? Isn't that "cruel?" Because it’s a free country and everybody isn’t going to agree on what issues they think are worthy.

Furthermore, charity organizations such as the Salvation Army endeavor to help the less fortunate. This demonstrates that there are official government and charitable channels that work to aid those truly in need of proper nourishment. Additionally, there are soup kitchens and homeless shelters for the homeless. People really care about the plight of the homeless, but many homeless people have physical and mental difficulties that make it impossible for them to get jobs or live traditional lifestyles. Therefore there are many agencies and organizations that support homelessness. If you have a magic bullet to stop the epidemic of poverty, the world would like to know. But giving at random to homeless people does not always encourage an overall improvement to their lives. If you give a man a fish, you have helped him become less self-sufficient. Not until you give him a fishingpole and teach him to fish have you done anything valuable for society. There are two sins here: ignoring human suffering and ignoring the suffering of any of God's creatures that you may consider different or inferior. Though you may judge one of those sins worse and one of them lesser, if you condemn the ones who have sought to reduce the lesser sin yet you have raised no hand in the prevention of either of these troubles, it may be you who can do more. PETA supporters also support other charities. Don't believe that you have helped the hungry and homeless more than the PETA supporters just because you don't empathize with trying to stop cruelty to living beings that are not human. By the way, PETA considers humans under the umbrella of the term animals, so it is also opposed to unethical treatment of humans. However just because I support PETA does not mean i don't support the homeless as well. I'm not a fan of giving out money but I do give food like bars that I keep in my car and where I live you can hand out a slip of paper that can get them a free meal. I also have a sponsor child in Brazil and we write letters to each other. I try to support the animals, the local impoverished people and the impoverished in other countries. I am still in High School and don't make $300 a month. I am hoping to take a year off and spend a year in western Kenya to help with drought relief. The only other thing I do to to help animals besides eating them is volunteer at the local shelter. I think that it is rude to assume just because some one does not eat meat and is a PETA member they don't care about the people. a lot of people have told me that because I am still in high school I can not make a difference but I think that I can by helping people and animals alike.
