First you have to think about what this will mean to him:
Is there any reason for him to make the long trip?
Can you find something he wants to do in the area and go along for the trip?
Could you wash his car in return, buy him lunch, pay for gas?
Is there a compromise that you could come to:
A bus stop nearby that you can catch a ride to?
