Mark’s better half! asked: I know it sounds kind of country to have fried chicken at a wedding reception, but that is what I like! I want a variety of foods because my fiance and I have a mix of heritages. I am German, Hungarian, and Choctaw Indian. He is German and Italian. I want German, Mexican, Chinese, and soul food. Would it be too wierd or should I get what we like and not worry about everyone else since it is our day?

naw not to bad, im going to a wedding this weekend, out in southwest VA, and they were thinking about having a pot luck reception….. now thats redneck
4:10 am - September 21st, 2007
No, but it does sound a bit too messy with everyone dressed so nice.
5:14 am - September 24th, 2007
You pick out what you and your husband want, do not try to please others it’s a no win situation. And good luck to the two of you
3:41 am - September 27th, 2007
No, not too country! It’s your wedding reception - right? Sounds great to me. Of course, I’m from the South too!
6:44 am - September 29th, 2007
Girl, fried chicken is culturally universal. Everyone loves it, well, maybe not the vegans. Anyway, do what you want. It’s your day. And trust me, everyone loves southern cookin.
10:17 am - September 29th, 2007
If you live in the South they’ll expect fried chicken, especially if it’s on a Sunday. We love our chicken!
4:07 pm - September 29th, 2007
Your reception. Get what you want!
9:12 am - October 2nd, 2007
Hey you love fried chicken, get that. Eat that. MMMM MMMM Good.
1:45 pm - October 2nd, 2007
just choose whatever you want to have at the reception, it’s your day, not somebody else’s. It’s a day you will live only once, (there’s a first wedding only once) you wanna make it happy in all aspects.
5:59 am - October 3rd, 2007
Its your wedding - you should have what you want - be proud of who you are - don’t worry about what others will think.
Best of luck in love & happiness.
5:33 pm - October 6th, 2007
Get what you like, it’s your reception!
9:00 pm - October 6th, 2007
“It’s your thang, do whatcha wanna do” (seriously!) I don’t see anything wrong with fried chicken. It would work north, south, east or west.
10:32 pm - October 6th, 2007
if you want fried chicken, honey, have fried chicken!!!
happy day to you…

Hey Mark’s wife - 2 - B!
When my wife and I were to get married, her mother had these plans for a reception that would have made a state dinner look like a hot dog cook-off! There were two caterers, an expensive hall, flowers from every florist that she could find in the pages of the phone book :-s !
Kathy & I needed a break, so one weekend we went up to Northern California to go hiking, we came across this older church, nothing spectacular, and we started talking… to make a long story short,
Our wedding and reception was at a small white church in Long Beach, California. We served fried chicken and all the fixins on picnic tables set-up behind the church. We had no live band but we did have music. The children were able to run around and chase each other. We had a country wedding and neither of us are from the country or the South.
My wife has been gone for 15 years now, but I still have my favorite picture. It is Kathy, resting against an oak tree in the church yard. Sleeping on her lap is our flower girl. Kathy is playing with the flower girls hair by touching the baby’s breath that was in the hair.
That day, TRULY was about love and families!
I hope you have a blessed day, no matter what you serve!
Congratulations!

You answered your own question
Get what you like it is your day
8:01 pm - October 10th, 2007
I say go with what you like. Everyone enjoys something different. I like the idea of having several flavors to choose from.
8:24 pm - October 13th, 2007
Its a good idea, but it has to be presented right. Fried Battered Drumsticks with a bit of foil around the bone is excellent finger food, and not as messy as it could otherwise have been, especially with a couple nice dips (one hot sauce, one creamy, and a Jack Daniels flavoured bbq one).
5:12 am - October 15th, 2007
I really don’t think so. Unless it is like from McD’s or Church’s chicken or something. Everyone loves chicken and I bet if you have a lot of kids there, that food item would be a fav.
4:36 pm - October 17th, 2007
No. Just because it’s served most in country restraunts and country homes it doesn’t mean that you can’t have it because of that.
9:54 pm - October 19th, 2007
Chicken would be great. Also think about serving a non-meat dish as well - like a pasta salad or something like that.
I say - serve what you both enjoy. My son got married last year, and they wanted pizza - so that’s what we had a pizza party and then had the wedding cake and groom’s cake.
Everyone loved it - it was relaxed, fun and just perfect for the couple.
So - I would say serve what you would like.
8:24 pm - October 21st, 2007
NO WAY! It’s your wedding. You can do totally whatever you want. Besides, everyone likes fried chicken, and for those who haven’t tried it, they’ll like it.
5:39 am - October 25th, 2007
I definitely think you and your fiance should have whatever food you want to have at your reception! And if you can find a caterer to make all those different dishes, more power to you! It is your celebration so it should be the two of you that make the choice of what food to serve. By having so many options, everyone should be pleased with something. And if not, invite them to have an extra piece of cake!
12:42 pm - October 26th, 2007
I think it’s how you present it.
If you’re serving it out of a KFC bucket… that’s country.
If you have the reception AT KFC… now, that’s just straight ghetto!
7:01 pm - October 26th, 2007
Do what you want! We had a roasted hog.
9:15 am - October 29th, 2007
Too country? wouldn’t be the question you should be asking yourself! Hellloowwwwww! It’s total white trash and not a good impression to leave with guests trying to whipe their greasy fingers off on the cheap, party rental napkins…maybe go with marinated chicken ****** appetizers…
