We are PLANTS!! HAPPY PLANTS!!!! asked: My mom got kfc and noticed i didn’t take any meat, and was mad about it. Then she saw me reading “being vegetarian for dummies”. She thinks being vegetarian is stupid and there is nothing wrong with eating meat, but i cant stand the thought of eating meat anymore. Any advice?
What were your parents like when you told them you wanted to go vegi?

Just dont even talk about it unless it comes up.ya know?I was a vegetarian for 6 months…well now i’d like to start back again.
My dad and mom were fine with it.

eating meat is natural
if we didn’t eat animals, the animals would over-populate
and take over the cities and eat us.
or they would go to the framers and eat our crops.
it’s the circle of life, it’s not a big deal.

I’m sorry, I just died laughing at the thought of somone treating veganism/vegetarianism as if they’re coming out of the closet.

I know when I went from vegetarian to vegan my mom flipped. Thankfully I wasn’t living with her anymore. Give it time. Dig up some great literature on vegetarianism from the internet and let her read it. There is also a great book out, called the China Study, that is a really good read. Good luck and lots of patience!

As a parent, my big concern would be any expectations of cooking two meals. With two working parents, it is not easy to be expected to cook twice. Be prepared to cook for yourself. If you are old enough to choose your own diet, you are old enough to cook it.

Even if I still ate meat, I wouldn’t touch KFC. The sheer fat and cholesterol in it shouldn’t be consumed by anyone.
My parents still tend to roll their eyes at my vegetarianism, but they’ve learned to deal with it. The best way I’ve managed to deal with it is educating myself to reaffirm my belief that my choice of being a vegetarian is a well informed and more ethical way of life.
Though many don’t know it, meat consumption is a huge source of pollution and deforestation in the world today, and half the water consumed by the US goes towards meat production. The animals are brutally treated and cared for, and all of the hormones and antibiotics that are fed to them end up in the meat.
I’d read up on vegetarianism, and stock your brain full of information on the advantages of such a diet. For example, vegetarians have lower risks of obesity, cancer and other chronic diseases. This is due to a decrease in cholesterol consumption and a general increase in the consumption of fruits and veggies.
Learn to cook for yourself, especially if your parents are unwilling to cook for you. Read up on vegetarian nutrition.
Tell your mother, “You’re right mom, there’s nothing wrong with eating meat, just like there’s nothing wrong with not eating meat. I just really don’t like it anymore, just like I don’t like (insert food you **** here) “

i told my parents that i wasn’t gonna eat meat and they couldn’t do anything to stop me.. i started cooking my own meals and my father took me to the doctor.. doctor said i was fine and my dad slowly started cooking for me and now he totally agrees w. me
throw the “you don’t love me” in there
tell her that it is proven that not eating meat is better for you then eating meat and that if she really loved you she would let you do this
also tell her that it is proven that KFC is bad for you and that if she really loved you and herself she would stop buying that crap

good for you for going veggie.

i suggest giving them the silent treatment, and maybe buying your own food. my mom was supportive of me, but seemed annoyed. eventually i went back to carni. because of my anemia.

I still don’t think my mother accepts that I’m a vegetarian, and I’ve been one for 5 years. I’m a grown woman but she doesn’t get it. It’s frustrating sometimes that some people can get mad at you for not wanting to eat anything made by killing an animal.
Just this morning my brother started yelling at me because I wouldn’t try a piece of Jarlsburg that was made with rennet. So he threw the piece of cheese across the room and yelled at me. Hehe.
Anyway. It shouldn’t matter that they think. It’s your decision and if they can’t handle it, well then nuts to them. Your mother won’t let you starve, so I’m sure she’ll buy and make things that you can eat, even if she disagrees with it.

ok, to the girl above me. if we didn’t eat meat they would not over populate the world….we grow cows and chickens for our consumption….goodness. as for you, i just wouldn’t eat any meat. they cant MAKE you, i mean, have a pb&j if they want to be stupid about it. tell them your reasons, and if they don’t understand, give them time. maybe go to the grocery store with your mom and pick out some meat substitutes that are easy to make. the morning star pizza burgers and ginger taryiaki cakes are very good and simple to make in the oven for ten minutes. my parents didn’t care, they called me weird a little, but never made me eat meat. i started my no red meat, then excluded chicken. now i make all my own meals just about…but its not hard i have a lot of ten minute meals that are soo good. email if you want any recipes or further advice : )

KFC stands for:
Kentucky
Fried
Cruelty
You should see how they treat their chickens!
You can see it ALL HERE:
That should explain ALOT.
But it’s always a treat to visit the PETA website:
They have tons of info to help you go vegetarian or vegan! It’s so healthy for you & you’ll save over 50 animals’ lives every year.
Go Veg has really nice recipes & videos:
And you can even get a FREE vegetarian starter kit! *Like I did* It’s so awesome. You should get one too:
Don’t worry, they won’t mail a bunch of junk mail to your house or anything.
Seriously think about it, you won’t miss meat that much. Fattening, cruel, meat. It’s gross in everyway.
If you need to convince your mom, make her watch some of the gruesome videos on Go Veg’s website. It’s so sad what they do to the cows. T.T Even the fish! But the most poorly treated of all, are the poultry.
Good Luck on going Vegetarian!

I was in the same situation as you, I admitted to being vegan and my mum spat in my face, my dad then beat me to a bloody pulp and locked me in the cellar for 2 days. He then poured gravy all over me and I was getting bits of beef in my mouth, oh the torture

I think my parents were aware I didn’t really like eating meat. I just didn’t like the taste. They were used to me being a picky eater so it didn’t bother them.
As long as you can get the nutrients you need and it’s not affecting your health, there’s nothing wrong with being a vegetarian. Have you decided what type you want to be? There are lacto-ovo (dairy and eggs) vegetarians, lacto (dairy, no eggs) vegetarians, ovo vegetarians (eggs, no dairy), and vegans (no eggs, no dairy, and pretty much a whole lifestyle). Whichever you choose, make sure you eat plenty of veggies, fruits, and grains; drink lots of water; exercise regularly; get plenty of sleep; and take a multivitamin because you might be missing key nutrients. You can eat with your parents but not eat what they’re eating. Do the research and explain to them your choice. Hopefully they accept your decision even if they don’t agree.

supposedly KFC is genetically engineered, so it’s not like you’re eating something that had a soul.
if we don’t eat KFC we’ll have an army of mutated, soulless chickens running around…..and one liberal party is enough.
