daniel l asked: If you read the financial report of the Yum! Brands, you will see that there is no growth; people are tired of this unhealthy food. But in China growth is 26% and Yum is opening a KFC every 22 hours. The ugly restaurants are changing the character of Chinese cities, and they hurt the business of small, wonderful family restaurants. What do you think about this?

They’re the rage…It’s something different, exotic and foreign/American.
There’s this goofy dichotomy in the world, they **** the US but want to be the US.

Cuz they’re American of course! People everywhere have a fascination with what’s foreign, specially if it’s American or European.

I think that despite how totally unhealthy this food is, people are going to continue to eat it because it tastes good. It’s funny, because it’s a metaphor for the reality of the human condition. For example, we know a lot of our habits are very destructive environmentally but we continue because they “taste good”, you know?
People need to start supporting alternatives not out of principle, but because the food available at these smaller restaurants is often infinitely better tasting, of a higher quality and helps to support the grassroots of their community.
Not to mention that usually they offer more than 6 choices for those desiring to eat healthy.
