Probably cutting corners _ I’ve noticed that too. Honey is expensive. $16 for a half gallon where I live.

Corn syrup is exceedingly cheap to produce in comparison to honey, which is considerably more expensive. Therefore, one can only conclude that KFC want to make as much profit as possible.
Why is corn syrup so cheap? It’s almost certain that it’s made from genetically modified corn - and no one knows the long term risk of ingesting GMO’s. Because companies prefer to make more profit, they choose the cheapest option (which usually isn’t the healthiest option). Even after it’s 15 stage processing (that involves refining it with hydrochloric acid), it still turns out cheaper than honey.
The American price of sugar is artificially far higher than the global price of sugar and the price of corn is artifically low due to government subsidies and cheaper alternatives such as genetically modified corn.
